Summer Institute for the Study of East Central and Southeastern Europe

The Summer Institute for the Study of East Central and Southeastern Europe (SISECSE) is a two-week residential workshop, that provides scholars of Eastern Europe time and space to dedicate to their own research and writing in a collaborative and interdisciplinary setting. ACLS in partnership with the Centre for Advanced Study Sofia (CAS) will convene leading scholars from Eastern Europe and North America for a two-week residency in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria from June 5, 2025 to June 20, 2025.

SISECSE will also provide participating scholars with the opportunity to undertake local fieldwork, including archival or collections research, interviews, site surveys, or other forms of data collection. Fieldwork is not a requirement for participation.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must have a PhD degree conferred (officially awarded) by an accredited university by the application deadline. An established scholar who can demonstrate the equivalent of the PhD in publications and professional experience may also qualify.
  • The competition is open to scholars in any field or discipline in the humanities or interpretive social sciences pursuing postdoctoral or advanced research in East Central and Southeastern Europe, including Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czechia, Croatia, Hungary, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Ukraine.
  • Applicants must have an affiliation—a long-term regular research or teaching appointment—with an institution (i.e., college, museum, university) in North America (Canada, Mexico, US) or East Central and Southeastern Europe (see the list above). Applicants who do not have tenure-track or permanent positions should describe their future commitment to working in North America or East Central and Southeastern Europe.
  • There are no restrictions as to the citizenship of applicants.
  • The application must be submitted in English, but the written work produced may be in any language.

About Climate Change AI

Climate Change AI is a nonprofit initiative to catalyze impactful work at the intersection of climate change and machine learning. Since it was founded in 2019, CCAI has inspired, informed, and connected thousands of individuals from across academia, industry, and the public sectors, through its foundational reports on AI and climate change, networking and knowledge-sharing events, educational initiatives, and global grants programs.

Eligibility

Each application must have a Principal Investigator (PI) who is affiliated with an accredited university in one of the 38 OECD Member Countries (see list here). The PI must be eligible to hold grants under their name at their accredited university; this may include, e.g., faculty, postdocs, or research scientists (depending on the institution). Co-Investigators can be located outside OECD Member countries and can be affiliated with non-research institutions, and indeed multi-country and multi-sectoral collaborations are encouraged. However, co-Investigators cannot be affiliated with an organization on the Consolidated Screening List) or an organization in a sanctioned country (see FAQ for additional information).

Current members of the Climate Change AI Board of Directors and Climate Change AI staff cannot apply to this grant as a PI, and they may not receive funds towards their own salary. Program Chairs and Meta-Reviewers for this grant may not apply or receive funds in any way (however, Reviewers may, and conflicts of interest will be appropriately managed during the review process).

We do not fund research activity that is currently funded by other grant programs. If other grant proposals for the same project have been submitted and/or are under consideration, the relation of the present proposal to those other proposals needs to be clearly explained. If the proposal is selected for funding, no aspect of a project should be double funded by other funding bodies.

Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program 2025

The Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program (CADFP) is a scholar fellowship program for educational projects at African higher education institutions. Offered by IIE, the program is funded by a grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York (CCNY). A total of 705 African Diaspora Fellowships have been awarded for scholars to travel to Africa since the program’s inception in 2013. CADFP exemplifies CCNY’s enduring commitment to higher education in Africa. IIE manages and administers the program, including applications, project requests and fellowships.

The CADFP application cycle for Project Requests will open on July 15, 2024 and close on September 18, 2024.

The Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program (CADFP) is a fellowship program for African institutions in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and member institutions of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) and partner universities with the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA) to host an African-born scholar to work on projects in research collaboration, graduate student teaching/mentoring and curriculum co-development.

Call for Applications for Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of the Western Cape – Academic Year 2025

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is an implementing partner of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. Initiated in 2012, the Program is a global initiative designed to develop the next generation of transformative leaders by enabling highly talented, service-oriented young people, primarily young Africans, to pursue their higher education and cultivate their leadership potential.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is specifically targeted towards young people whose access to higher education is impeded by economic and social barriers. The Program places a particular emphasis on reaching young women, refugees and forcibly displaced youth, and young people living with disabilities, who are encouraged to apply.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UWC supports academically talented youth from South Africa and other parts of the African continent. For the 2025 Academic Year, the Program at UWC will provide fully-funded opportunities for young Mastercard Foundation Scholars to study for i) undergraduate qualifications or ii) master’s degree qualifications.

ACCEL Africa Project Training Programme 2024 for Journalists

Training application: Voices against child labour

The ACCEL Africa Project is inviting journalists to take part in a free training designed to equip them with the skills and knowledge to effectively report on child labour in African supply chains, with the aim of amplifying efforts to eradicate child labour and stimulate public and policy-level support for this crucial cause.

Eligibility Criteria

Professional Background

  • Must be a practicing journalist, media professional, or journalism student in the Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Malawi, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana or Egypt.
  • Preference will be given to journalists with experience in reporting on human rights, social issues, or on any of the following supply chains: gold, cotton, coffee, cocoa, tea

Geographic Focus

  • Currently residing and working in one of the targeted countries as mentioned above.
  • Special consideration for applicants reporting in rural or vulnerable regions within these countries.

Commitment to Advocacy

  • Demonstrated interest or prior work related to child labour, human rights, or social justice.
  • Willingness to engage in advocacy and public awareness activities post-training.

The story should portrait a real case of child labour, and a real solution which may have helped the subject overcome a challenge. The story can be of a child, a parent, or a family. For all stories, a signed consent form should be attached for each subject portrait. Kindly note that the form should be signed by the subject and not by yourself.
  5. Include a maximum of 1 page description of the story highlighting the context, the challenge, and the solution.
  6. A letter of recommendation from a current employer or a professional peer attesting to the applicant's suitability for the training.

Wilson Center Communications Internship 2024

The External Relations department at the Wilson Center seeks an energetic and self-motivated student or recent graduate interested in communications, public policy, and international affairs for an internship this summer. Consistently ranked as one of the top think tanks in the world, the Wilson Center provides opportunities for hands-on experience working on a wide range of issues that impact today’s public policy debates.

The intern is involved in virtually every aspect of the Wilson Center’s External Relations department – a dynamic team managing external communications for Wilson Center events, publications, media relations, and digital communications.

 

Assignments might include:

  • Drafting posts for the website requiring research, writing, and publishing via the content management system
  • Drafting press releases
  • Drafting media hits reports
  • Assisting with event registration for on-site events
  • Aide with data clean up and classification of YouTube analytics
  • Assisting with social media toolkits for the Wilson Quarterly
  • Researching, selecting, and optimizing photos for use on the website
  • Researching and writing stories on Wilson Center alumni

Halton Foundation Grant 2024

Who can apply for Halton Foundation Grant?

A Halton Foundation grant is typically awarded to a non-profit organization researching how to improve human wellbeing in indoor environments. Grants may also be applied by organizations that develop solutions aiming for better indoor environmental quality.

What kind of grants are awarded?

  • One-time grants which are single-year grants for a specific purpose
  • Multi-year grants for no longer than three years; and,
  • Start-up program grants

Grants are awarded based on grant applications.  The application period is from July 1st to September 1st

A decision on grants is made by November 1st. The successful applicant will be notified of the grant award and the grant decision will be announced on the Halton Foundation website.

Depending on the scope and nature of the project or program, the amount of the grant may vary between thousands of dollars and tens of thousands of dollars. Grants shall not exceed 30 000 € per year.

Grants have been awarded in several areas including helping children with asthma, funding for the Himalayas Stove project, and providing grants to universities that research indoor environmental quality.

COMMONWEALTH PROFESSIONAL FELLOWSHIPS – INFORMATION FOR PROSPECTIVE FELLOWS

Overview

Commonwealth Professional Fellowships are for mid-career professionals from low and middle income countries to spend a period of time at a UK host organisation working in their sector for a programme of professional development.

Purpose: To provide professionals with the opportunity to enhance knowledge and skills in their given sector, and to have catalytic effects on their workplaces.

Fellow eligibility

To be eligible for these Fellowships, prospective Fellows must:

  • Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person
  • Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country
  • Have at least five years’ full-time, or equivalent part-time, relevant work experience, in a profession related to the subject of the fellowship programme, by the proposed start of the fellowship – voluntary work experience will not be counted towards this minimum
  • Be in employment at the time of application at an organization that they will return to upon completion of the fellowship
  • Provide at least two references, one of which must be from their current employer. Any applications for which references are not received by the reference closing date will be considered ineligible.
  • Not have undertaken a Commonwealth Professional Fellowship within the last five years (at the time of taking up the award)
