What is the African Climate Innovation Challenge (ACIC)?
The ACIC is a project jointly developed and implemented by 3 E’s 4 Africa, GAYO and Startup Lounge to focus on the innovative minds and projects of young Africans and encourage and empower them to create a local impact in their communities. It is an idea contest which challenges young Africans to come up with innovative, green ideas and
helps them to develop them into real solutions.
Who can Apply
- The ACIC is open to an African team made of 2 – 6 young people from 18 to 35 years.
- The team should have a good mastery of the English language and should be able to fully commit to the ACIC program.
- Your idea must be centered around climate change mitigation and/or climate change adaptation.
BENEFITS
- There is up to USD15,000 in prize money for the three winning teams to implement their innovative start-up ideas.
- All participants will receive tailor made curriculum as well as dedicated peer-to-peer mentorship to further develop their start-up ideas.
- All 10 selected teams will also receive 3 months incubation to move past the ideation stage and turn their ideas into reality.
- All participants gets the chance to pitch on a big stage during the African Climate Summit
- Participants share a stage co hosted by the Republic of Kenya and the African Union Commission (AUC) in Nairobi.
What Innovations or solutions qualify for the ACIC?
- Any innovative and/or relevant solution which strives to help your community mitigate climate change or to enable your community to adapt to the adverse effects of climate change qualifies for the ACIC.
- The ACIC Curriculum will take place online over a period of 5–6 weeks between July and August 2023.
- By filling and submitting this application form and if selected, you and your team (everyone listed below) agree to commit fully to the ACIC program by taking part in the online sessions as well as the in-person ACIC pitch event in Nairobi, Kenya.
