Role Purpose

The Procurement Officer – Country Support, West Africa will be responsible for supporting the Head of Procurement in overseeing procurement activities for the region.

Purpose – Analyze

      • In liaison with the Head – Procurement, determine the institution’s purchasing needs and specifications.
      • Ensure procurement best practice is followed using the detailed guidelines provided in AGRA’s Procurement Policy and Procedures Manual.
      • Provide quality assurance of reports, bidding documents from the countries.
      • Assist the Head – Procurement in the preparation of annual procurement plans; ensuring that the plan is followed, including quarterly meetings with the Program Heads and Operations Heads to update the plan.

Addax and Oryx Foundation

The Addax and Oryx Foundation aims to fund focused, high-impact projects with a clear beginning, end and exit strategy, run by small organizations that have little or no access to large funders.  Selection criteria

The Addax and Oryx Foundation funds projects that:

  1. Are conducted by registered non-profit, non-governmental organizations (see also under Limitations and exclusions) with:
    • Proven experience and competence in the proposed area of activity.
    • Demonstrated budget efficiency and transparency in the use of funds.
  2. Contribute to the eradication of the root causes of poverty in Africa and the Middle East.
  3. Focus on the Foundation’s four core areas:
    • Health
    • Education
    • Community development
    • The environment.
  4. Create a sustainable and measurable impact for the most underprivileged populations.
  5. Ensure sustainable development by building skills and empowerment for the long-term.

The Foundation gives preference to projects that cover two or more of its core areas, and to small organizations run by highly committed individuals who are directly involved in the projects they propose.

Limitations and exclusions

The Foundation does not support:

  • On-going programs
  • Individuals or their families directly
  • Religious or faith-based projects, programs or organizations
  • Political organizations and/or events
  • For-profit organizations

Funding process

Selected projects are submitted to the Foundation’s Board, which meets 3-4 times per year. Once a project is approved by the Foundation’s Board, it is the subject of a Funding Agreement that defines precisely the duties of the implementing organization towards the Foundation and vice versa.

The Youth Advisory Board is a consultative body that provides valuable insights and recommendations to UN-Habitat on strategies to sustainable urban development. Established in 2008, the YAB has played a crucial role in mainstreaming youth perspectives and promoting youth participation in UN-Habitat’s programs and major events.

Now, in its latest term, the YAB is seeking passionate and dedicated youth to join its ranks. The board will have representation from each of UN-Habitat’s six regions and a commitment to equal gender representation.

The UN-Habitat Youth Advisory Board is co-hosted by the Balikesir Metropolitan Municipality (Türkiye), host of World Habitat Day in 2022.

YORUBA, IGBO, HAUSA,SWAHILI, TWI XHOSA TUTOR NEEDED IN MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY

The Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTL) and the African Languages (AFR) Programs at Michigan State University are establishing a pool of fixed term instructors.  These positions will be filled per course/per semester, on an as-needed basis.  Applicants in this pool are reviewed when the department has an immediate need to fill a vacancy.

Duties:  Responsibilities include working closely with the LCTL or AFR coordinators to teach one to three courses in the LCTL or ALP, attending training meetings and biweekly progress meetings. Instructors will also be evaluated by the LCTL or AFR Teaching Coordinator.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree for Assistant Instructor level
  • Master's for Instructor level
  • PhD. for Assistant Professor level

2023 UN Global Climate Action Awards

For 2023, the Awards seek to highlight the innovative climate action that young people around the world are undertaking to ensure their communities are more sustainable, resilient, and equitable places to live.  Two youth awards will be selected:

  • A youth award for energy transition, and
  • A youth award for nature and eco-system based climate action.

Winners will receive a package of benefits, including travel to and participation in the COP28 Climate Conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

ELIGIBILITY

Applications will be reviewed based upon the following criteria:

Youth award on energy transition:
