According to the African Development Bank, Africa’s workforce is anticipated to burgeon to 1.1 billion by 2030, underscoring the pivotal role of skill development in enhancing economic competitiveness. The imperative for African students to acquire pertinent skills cannot be overstated; these skills are paramount in increasing employability upon graduation. Yet, amidst an ever-expanding population, the challenge for African schools lies in equipping students with the essential knowledge and skills required for success in the global market.
In the face of industry transformation driven by automation and technology, Africans are confronted with the urgent need to acquire new skills and adapt to evolving job markets. Empowering the youth with contemporary skills not only amplifies their employability but also nurtures economic resilience, innovation, and social progress across the continent, thereby addressing gender disparities and contributing to Africa’s sustainable development. Regrettably, students in African schools are grappling to keep pace with these advancements, putting them at risk of falling behind global counterparts. Given the constraints of limited resources, the question arises: How can these students ensure competitiveness and success in society?
