Geneva Graduate Institute Call for Applied Research Project ARPs 2024
OVERVIEW
Applied Research Projects (ARPs) are a foundational component of the MINT programme. ARPs involve small student groups working together to conduct policy-relevant research with partner organisations on issues relating to international development and international relations.
Through ARPs, students learn and apply analytical and research skills to practical and policy-relevant issues in international relations and development. Students work with autonomy and professionalism under the supervision of a team of Graduate Institute faculty.
Over the course of the ARP, students are expected to:
- elaborate project Terms of Reference and frame appropriate research questions;
- conduct in-depth literature reviews and design relevant methodologies;
- undertake original research;
- analyse primary data;
- write analytic preliminary and final reports; and
- present final research findings.
Teamwork, collaboration, professionalism, effective communication, and problem solving are crucial skills that the ARP process aims to teach students.
PARTNER ORGANISATIONS
Organisations working on issues of global concern are invited to submit applications to sponsor an ARP. Partner organisations are expected to provide guidance and support to students to generate research that is of policy and practical relevance.
Applying to serve as an ARP Partner Organisation is a competitive process; successful applicants demonstrate a commitment to supporting students across the project period, including through the provision of technical expertise, supporting students’ professional learning, and helping students connect with other leading experts in the relevant field of practice.
ARP Partner Organisations are expected to:
- provide overall framing of the research project;
- participate in approximately 4 meetings with students across the project period;
- provide feedback on and validate students’ deliverables, including the Terms of Reference, Literature Review and Methodology, and the Preliminary and Final Reports;
- attend the final presentation.
Organisations interested in applying to become ARP Partners for the 2024-2025 cohort are invited to complete this ARP Partner Application Form by 31 July 2024. Organizations which pass through the first stage of screening will be contacted by mid-September 2024. Selected organisations will be asked to adhere to the Geneva Graduate Institute’s Code of Conduct and to sign a partnership agreement.

Youth Leadership Development Programme (YLDP) 2024
Youth Leadership
Development Programme
Young Hearts, Hands and Voices for Social Change
Nigerian youths are pressed for action and eager to lead and create change. However, there are questions about whether they have all the knowledge and skills required to succeed in such positions. Do they have the right models to follow? Do they fully understand what it means to lead themselves first and then others?
To bridge this gap, LEAP Africa designed the Youth Leadership Development Programme to equip undergraduates in tertiary institutions with the skills, knowledge and resources needed to play active roles in actualising the Sustainable Development Goals, contribute to nation-building and community development, speak up for social issues and collaborate to lead change.
Participants of the YLDP go through self-paced courses developed on the programme’s three pillars: leadership, active citizenship and community/sustainable development group mentorship sessions with expert social innovators and change makers who will guide them as they implement impactful change projects, inter-school debates on national issues, funded community change projects, and virtual learning sessions to develop their mindsets and equip them to be the change agents the country needs.
The Youth Leadership Development Programme will help young people become contributing members of society and empower young people to actively engage in addressing issues of national concern while fostering peer-to-peer learning and community building.

What is the Professional Fellows Program on Inclusive Civic Engagement?
The Professional Fellows Program on Inclusive Civic Engagement is a professional program funded by the US Department of State for emerging leaders in Africa. It focuses on exchanging and implementing best practices for inclusive civic engagement. Every year, the program typically supports approximately 12 mid-career disability rights professionals (Fellows) from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Ethiopia to participate in a five-week Fellowship Program in the US.
What does this Fellowship Program involve?
As a Fellow, you will learn effective approaches to enhance your efforts to build and strengthen fully inclusive civic societies for people with disabilities in your country. The core of the program is an individual Fellowship placement with a US host organization.
Prior to the placement, you will select a key policy or practice issue related to disability and civic engagement in your country. This issue becomes the focus for your individual Fellowship placement and informs the Follow-on Project that you will develop and implement within six months of returning home. Please note that your project should be implemented without the need for additional resources or financial support beyond what is available in your current work or volunteer position. The Fellowship will also include weekly seminars, mentorship, and community service.

Global Black Women Non-Fiction Manuscript Prize 2024
As part of its mission as a global Black publishing house connecting Africa and the African diaspora, Cassava Republic Press’s is proud to announce the launch of our inaugural $20,000 Global Black Women’s Non-Fiction Manuscript Prize dedicated to exceptional works by Black women (cis, trans and genderqueer). The prize represents a first in the world of Black women’s letters, not only by virtue of its global scope, but also its non-fiction focus, and its generous prize value. Our mission is to publish emerging and established Black women writers and thinkers from across the world, focusing on critical ideas across time and space.
At the heart of this prize lies a deep commitment to amplifying the long tradition of Black women writers as knowledge-makers and critical thinkers. We take seriously Black South African feminist scholar and writer Desiree Lewis’ observation that ‘publishers have tended to focus on black women’s fictional and autobiographical writing, or on poetry. This tends to be symptomatic of a publishing and reading/marketing stereotype about black women in the public sphere being “interesting” mainly as entertainers, storytellers, or so-called “creatives,” rather than as knowledge-makers and critical thinkers.’
Eligibility
What We Are Looking For
We are looking to publish and champion Black women writers who bridge the gap between “creativity” and “theory” with work that is both rigorous and beautiful, creative and thoughtful.
We are not an academic publisher, but welcome submissions from academics writing for a mainstream audience. Our goal is to amplify and unearth the critical ideas that might otherwise remain unpublished or confined to academic circles or smaller audiences. Importantly, in seeking creative critical writing and knowledge-making for a broad audience, we welcome writing that will challenge and excite our readers.
We do not accept straightforward memoirs, but manuscripts that incorporate theory with personal essays/experiences within a broader context are welcome.
